Hello all I am mike and new here. I did a search but it seems I may have a problem that is a little different than the ones I've seen. It's a 97 Sea-Doo Xp 787 engine that wont start. You insert the key and press the start button the engine rotates but wont run. It will spit and sputter sometimes. The cable to the oil pump came loose and popped off of its bracket (the side mounted on the pump itself not the throttle side). I pulled its lever back into position and tightened the cable. I am not sure if internal (inside the oil pump not the engine) damage can result from that. When you spin the motor with the plugs removed a gray like substance fires out of the cylinders. When the plugs are in and after a few seconds of cranking the plugs become covered in this gray substance. I wanna say its oil but the oil is blue. It could be getting aerated traveling at high velocity like that and turn gray from air bubbles but I don't know for sure. The ski wasn't rolled in the water or anything. There are no visible indications of it taking on water. It ran fine earlier that day. When I changed the fuel filter I removed its cup several times and each time it was full of fuel so I would think that the motor is getting fuel. I gave the engine a shot of starting fluid it still didn't start or even sound like it was going to.
Things I have done:
Cut the Ignition wires back 3/8"
Changed the Fuel Filter
Removed all of the fuel from the tank and replaced it with 5 gallons of fresh 93
Cleaned the plugs (which are new this year)
removed the air filter box and screen cleaned the carbs with some gummout
checked for spark (has spark)
compression check 135psi #1 - 150psi #2
Brand New battery
New 4 gauge ground cable
cleaned both positive terminals (battery and starter)
Checked the electrical boxes for water or loose connections
checked the fuses
People tell me that you guys are best and brightest of them all so I am hoping to find my answer here. Thanks in advance.
