I have been looking for a new short block with no success. found a couple rebuilds in the area a little pricey. does any one have any input to a reputuble rebuilder in the northeastern states. I found one in FL called SBT in Tampa any comments on the quality of there products? or any other recommendations greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob:bigear:

SBT is normally OK. They have issues once in a while, but any high volume shop will. If you order an engine from them... just check everything before doing the install.

Thanks for the reply. still kicking around the idea of just doing a rebuild on my engine the big hold up is the crank it needs all the BB replaced. looking for a reputable shop to do this with out swaping out cranks. on the forum I havent seen any positive feed back on this issue, for every one good I see 4-5 bad responses. I work in the Aviation field and would rather do my own work if you know what I mean.

it is possible to do your own crank... but it's not much fun, and it's easy to get it wrong.

My normal suggestion to people who want to do their own rebuilds, is to just buy a "Hot Rods" crankshaft.

I own the equipment to press a crank... and I will only do it for restoration projects.(stuff that isn't available)

Tony,
is there any where to get the info on rebulding/pressing cranks. I have axcess to a 200 ton press if needed. have 50 ton in shop. could tig weld back if needed. and lathe and indicators to .00005. also have axcess to CMM if it is needed but think that's over kill. and mag flux/zyglo if needed to check for cracks. would realy like to tackle this for the fun!
Hot rods said that they don't have a crank, may only have rods.
Thanks,
Bob

for fun is an acceptable reason. I'm surprised that Hot Rods didn't have a crank for you. Maybe they are getting out of the PWC market.

One of the rules here is to not ops links to other sites... so... if you want a vid... I will PM the link to you.
