97 gsx fuel gauge blank w/ blown 5 amp fuse

New to the forum looks like great info. I have a 97 gsx with 50 hrs on it. The fuel gauge is blank no bars at all. There is a 5 amp fuse blown. I shorted the wires from the sending unit to the gauge nothing happened. I need to get a new dvom to check resistance on the float next but with no read on the gauge I'm fearing the gauge all the other functions on the gauge work speed,rpm,time...... Thanks for any help

more than ikey the sending unit or float went bad, 90% time its sending unit. jump the wires from plug going to gauge(not to tank), gauge should read full tank. wires should be pink and pink/black
