97 Challenger Speedometer Compatability

So one of the final issues I have with my Challenger is the speedometer. It's stuck at 15 MPH when it's off or moving slowly. Then when it does come to life it reads up to about 25 MPH and then, get this, very quickly goes backwards and stops at 60 MPH.
Needless to say it's not accurate at any of those speeds. I've done the usual tests and all is well, so I'm assuming there's something whacky in the speedo itself.

What other years and makes share the same speedo so I can shop for a used one? I suppose I could go through the parts catalog but if someone knows off the top it would save me some time.

Here's the US model I suspect the difference is KPH vs MPH, it ain't cheap

For your reference CA Part no. 204470078
US Part no. 204470018

I couldn't find any cross reference to the same part no. electrically a similar gauge should work, the question is if it's the same size. Try looking for a similar model PWC or Boat with the same engine(s).

Another option you might consider is a GPS speedometer, not much more than the price of a replacement and a lot more accurate.

Thanks Lou. I had checked the part numbers too and found the same result. Didn't look like there was an obvious match.
Is there actually a difference between the US & CAN Speedometers? Mine is in miles, as were all the ones I looked at before purchasing my boat.
I was hoping that one out of a PWC of a similar year would have been the same...

You can get a Speedometer from a 97GTX or 97GSX for about 35.00 on EBay, it might be worth a try, if it doesn't work you could always resell it. FYI the gauge in my 96GSX is about 3-1/4" across, the speed sensor part no. is 278000970 or 278000849. If you have either one of these sensors it will work with one of the speedometers above. I just added a speedometer to my 96GSX and this is the combination that worked.

You need the correct sensor, the correct gauge and 12v. power to the gauge. It doesn't need to run through the MPEM, I just direct connected mine.

Here's one on EBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/97-Seadoo-X..._Watercraft_Parts&vxp=mtr&hash=item4cfb9d84ba
