97 challenger Idle question

Idle screw one turn on stop,
Cable on throttle is al the way loose,
Fresh rebuild first time run with water she idles high 3k, just sounds high.
How can I lower it

Is that with a hose connected or with the boat in the water? It will idle high if the boat is out of the water.

Well finished late winter with engine only quickly started.
Finally got sunshine so trying with water hose to be sure all ok, seems high.
Tach reads 3k if they are accurate.
Want to be sure all good before take out on lake

Even with the hose on, the idle is going to be high out of the water. That’s completely normal. What slows the idle down is the water pressure on the pump. When you run on the hose, you’re introducing water to the engine cooling system, but there is no load on the pump or engine itself.

Crossing my fingers that all goes well when in lake- I always get nervous after engine work..
