Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum, and I thank any help I can get.
I have a 97 challenger 1800 with twin 110's. The port side engine runs and starts relatively easy but has a miss in it when it builds rpm. After a couple of minutes of running it just flat out dies. It will not restart until I remove the DESS key and stick it back on, then i fires right up and runs fine until it comes under load again, at which point it begins to miss about once every 10 seconds.

So far I have changed spark plugs and changed fuel filter. The plug wires are good and on the plugs well. Next I was going to swap ignition coils, and the the start/stop switch. I fear that it could be the MPEM. Does any one know what is involved in changing that out?

Thank in advance.

changing an MPEM is easy... but it's very expensive.

Since you have 800 engines... I'm going to tell you to check the pick-op coil on the flywheel. on that engine, they are known to break free from their mount. when that happens... it will start with a miss, and eventually die as it vibrates away from the flywheel magnets.

Thanks I will definitely check that first.

How much does an MPEM cost? Where is there a good place to get one?
Do you need software to talk to it so you can get the DESS keys to work?

Thanks again.
