time for rebuild, chief. If mechanically inclined, you can get crank assy kit(ebay) that has everything, pistons, gaskets,..etc, for around 500buks w/shipping. If you know history of ski,(wasnt flooded w/ water,..etc) and feel you want to get it running, get away withtop-end kit, BUT, hesitant oncracking the case..etc, then maybe SBT should be the alternative..

compression

Just pulled the heads. Piston in rear has pieces missing out of it. Do you think I can get away with just rebuilding the top end?

depends on how long those pieces been float'n down in bottom. Could've snagged a rod bearing cage. Did it go(motor) quik, then thats when you compression tested it, if thats the case, and walls of cylinders aint bad, and if not been opened up before, maybe get away with hone on that cylinder and new piston. (just throw'n idea, probably get BLASTED for it, later)

If your missing pieces of piston, more than likely it went into the crank bearings. You should split the cases and check the bearings. If you just rebuild the top end chances it will just blow up if you have a crank bearing problem and ignore it. Pay some now or pay a lot later. Your choice.
