Got a 96 XP I'm trying to make run. First got it, started right up but wouldn't get up and run. Discovered original hose issue, replaced all hoses, rebuilt carbs, all new gas. Now it won't start at all. Hmm.

Key switch seems to act wierd. Sometimes it will turn over. Others, no juice and the VTS doesn't work. Wiggle it or remove and replace and it works. Just checked spark plug when it's cranking and doesn't appear to be getting spark. How does the key switch work, and could it be keeping me from getting spark? I just replaced the battery, too. Starter seems a little balky also. Push button, wait, and then it cranks. Cleaned the positive terminal on starter--couldn't even see the negative.

Speaking of battery, are there just two wires going to the negative (one big one, one little one coming out of the electrical box in the back) and one red one?

bad battery charger?

Y'know, I think maybe my battery charger is bad. So I'm trying another. Also, I'm thinking that after you put the key on it's little knob you need to wait for the middle display to go through it's lights (maybe some sort of diagnostic). Now it seems to be sparking but not enough juice to crank it many times. So I'm making progress.
