I have a 96 XP that runs great most of the time. Sometines when you take it out and start it it will idle just fine but when you go to give it throttle it will shudder and shake a little bit. When it does this the ski will not go more than 10 mph and will just not rev out of it. Typically you have to shut the ski off and I will usually pull the DSS and re start the ski. I have had to do this as many as 4 time and then it will run completely normal. Any ideas? Thanks.

You may have sucked somthing up. I have had this problem before when I ran threw some grass I had to get out of the boat and reach under and remove the grass from intake grate. I have allso had it hapen at the boat ramp where it is shallow when I got into deeper water gave it throtal and it did what you are describeing. I turned off engine and restarted and it was fine. I guess I sucked up somthing and it let go when I turned engine off.

carbs been cleaned/rebuilt?, no grey fuel lines, fuel selector cleaned/replaced?, raves been cleaned lately?..Sounds like fuel delivery, or raves can be stick'n, then wham, they open, or crap in fuel line/s...if any of these haven't been attended to, i'd go start there...

Do you have spark on both cylinders? you may need to cut 1/4 inch off you plug wires and re-attach, see if that helps.

Montana,

I did a compression test the other day and did confirm that I am getting spark on both cylinders. Thanks for the idea. It is just kinda weird how that it comes out of it. Once it starts running right after it does it it will be good until you let it rest. I am goingo to do the fuel line and carb cleaning to rule that out.

I had the same problem and I fixed it by trimming those plug wires, it takes 10 seconds and you can't go wrong, make sure you screw them back on real good.
