I am new to this site but seems to be a wealth of good info...so hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction.

Purchased a 96 xp earlier this summer - As some backround, the only thing ive done to the ski thus far is to add a block off plate and switch to pre mix. (everything else appears to be stock) Runs great but towards the end of the summer would cut off at lower fuel levels in rough water (usually at higher throttle level). Figured this was just due to the gas sloshing in the tank when hitting a wave. However, the reserve does not seem to work either...Always runs out of gas with a bout 2" or so left in tank and does nothing when switching to reserve (also information guage powers up but no read outs). Yes, still have grey line - I am changing but want to do all at once. I also am aware of the recall on the tank and intend to have it changed this winter as well (strong fumes in hull).

From reading thus far, Im thinking the fuse is out in the baffle or the float is getting saturated. So my initial plan of attack is to simply replace the baffle with a used working one, redo the fuel lines - then test, then rebuild carbs.

Am i on the right track or way off here........Thanks!

Good reading!.......

It seems, since joining the site, you've mastered the search engine. :hurray:

I think your right on target here. If your info gage is working, lets test it. At your gas tank is the disconnect plug for the fuel level gage. Disconnect it and get a short piece of wire, stipped on either end. Now, stick one stipped end in one connector slot, one in the other; effictively shorting the plug. You should have a full tank readout in your info center.

Check the reserve visually to see that the line hasn't already been blocked off. If so, then you may have some blockage from those grey fuel lines in the selector switch.

If your engine is running as well as you say, you may not need a rebuild on the carbs. It wouldn't hurt, since you'll have them apart. You'll have to remove at least the pump cover to clean the micro mesh filter inside each carb...........

You sound like you know where your heading with this job. The grey fuel lines are probably 95% of your problem.............

From what I have read - the neck is known to crack, causing fuel fumes to build up in the hull. You need to call a dealer and give them your VIN # and they will tell you if your ski is covered under the recall.
