I just purchased a 96 SPX and the starter button works intermittently. I have to press the button 10 -15 times to get it to work. I get a "click" every time I press it but the engine does not turn over. The ski has a new battery and it turns over very strong when the starter button works. This is my first ski so I know nothing about it. I think I probably need to clean the connections including the ground but I need some help locating them. Pictures would be very helpful. Thanks.

And while you are following spark plug wires, trace them to the plastic box. Inside the box is the relay. If there is water build up in the box, you might have corroded terminals that make it hard for the starter to get a good connection at start.

You may also have to consider pulling out the starter to see if there is any built up corrosion on the gear/shaft. And then you would already be in there for cleaning the terminals and cable connectors.

Thanks for the great info. Can you give me some advice on oil? I have a 98 yamaha waverunner and this 96 seadoo spx. Can I use the same oil in both skis? Is the pennzoil tcw3 or quicksilver tcw3 oil okay?

As for oil I personally stick with what sea doo recommends, that leaves me two choices synthetic or mineral in the brand that they provide. I think Yamaha may have different friction points with different tolerance levels so on the other ski I would use what they have recommend.
