96 speedster

OK I finally got it in the water today for the first time. In the beginning of the summer I acquired this 96 speedster from my inlaw to get it running and sell. Ive totally rebuilt all four carbs and got it running on the trailer. I drained old gas and injection oil and replaced with new fluids.Its taken a while to get the title and numbers straight but im finally set.

Today I got it out on the water it started just fine and I let it idle for a bit and slowly moved the throttles forward. All went well at first it got up on plane and sounded great at full throttle for a few minutes. This is where it went wrong I slowed sorta fast and started to turn to head back to the dock. After the turn I attempted to speed up but all I get is hesitation. It idles just fine but just revs up when i hit the throttles with no forward acceleration. Any advice would be great before I resort to taken it to the shop.

Sounds like it's a cavatation issue to me

OK I just inspected the wear rings and both seam to have jagged spots around them. Will that cause cavatation? I forgot to mention the first time I got it to plane it hesitated then took off would that explain cavatation too?

It could be. Can you post pics of the wear ring and impeller?

Well guess I didnt look very close at this or I would have replaced the non existent wear rings. Its going to be a pain to get the piece out of the seam!!

The wear ring is shot. Replace it ASAP. the clearance between the longest part of the impeller to the wear ring should be no more .040 inches. (at least for a ski anyways)
Measure it with a feeler gauge

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Now that im thinking about it My father was sitting at the bow during the first take off. Do you think thats why it got up at full throttle?
