Hello everyone Im a new owner and new to the site. My father inlaw passed this speedster over to me "lucky me" maybe. When I was in West Marine the other day looking for oil for my new boat the gentleman gave me a bottle of west marine TC-W3 and I was very clear as to what it was being used for. Upon browsing the manual it states to not use this type at all? Do I need to drain this oil and get the seadoo oil refered to in the manual or will this work fine? Im still in the rebuilding stage but I got both engines going so I ordered the Carb kits. Thanks in advance

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Do not use TC-W3 oil. SeaDoo's require API-TC rated oil. Mineral oil or a synthetic blend is fine for a 717. I personally use Quicksilver PWC, API-TC oil, I only found out recently its a synthetic blend, its about 26.00 gal. at Walmart. They also have the full synthetic for $37.00 gal.

Really any oil is O.K. as long as it has an API-TC rating. If you don't know what's in the boat it would be best to drain, and then prime the system. Or is you're lazy like me just drain the tank and then add the new oil.

When you decide on an oil its important to stay with the same brand, that's one reason I use the Quicksilver because it's pretty readily available, most Mercury Marine dealers also carry it.

Thanks Lou I did however use this oil during my first couple of starts just to get the engines going. What's the priming procedure if I wanted to go that route?

Another question comes to me after reading post after post. May sound silly but im very unfamiliar with this new toy and the manual isnt to much help. Does the oil pump itself use seperate oil other than the injection oil? If so i guess it should be changed after sitting for four years or so. As soon as my carb kits come in Id like to change that oil while I have the carbs out. Thanks again in advance!!!

If you're talking about the pump oil (the oil inside the jet pump), it needs to be changed annually. I use Mobil 1, 75w90, LS, GL5, Synthetic.

Maybe that's what I read. I will change that as well then. Will that procedure be in the service manual? Thank again for the assistance!!

There is a write up here and some vids on your tube. Sorry if I was misleading, I thought you were talking about the oil injection pump
