New SBT engine ran great about 45 minutes on break-in. Heard one beep, battery light and temp light came on and went off. Of course had just filled up and leaving marina starting my 50% acceleration break-in. About 2 minutes later stopped running. When I press the start button 5 times no beep, no beep with DESS connected, no fuel on gauge. I have tested the start button and the circuit opens and closes. With DESS connected it shows closed circuit, disconnected DESS shows open. I checked connectivity on the Yellow/Red from MPEM and the Yellow/Red plugged to the solenoid and there is no connectivity not sure if there should be. I think I have a bad MPEM but I don't think I am fully testing this. I have the manual and I am not positive about what the "Ring Terminal" is for testing the MPEM. I have seen post you can bypass the MPEM and it may blow the 5 amp fuses but not sure how to bypass and make the gauges work. Alot of money in engine, gas lines, carb and etc but at point of no return. Any suggestions before I buy a MPEM and have it programmed? I don't want to buy the MPEM and it is something simple that I should have checked. I do have power to the solenoid and ground is testing good.

Since the engine was just replaced...sounds like possibly a loose ground issue...but then again you did check that

I checked the ground and even tested in the box with the ground there and the positive on the solenoid and it seemed good. I double checked that I had the correct positive connected to the start and the cable from battery to solenoid. It should be something simple but still could be the MPEM. It sat up for about 3 years so doing the engine could just have put stress on other parts, the risk you run in rebuilding one. Thanks, still searching for that smoking gun.

The yellow wire will be OPEN until, the lanyard is in place and the START button is pressed. Then it should have 12 volts and engage the solenoid.

Jump the solenoid to see if it cranks. If it does, then the battery, cables, connections, and starter are good. If it does NOT crank, one of these things needs serviced.

The Yellow/Red going to the MPEM has 12 volts when it comes out of the MPEM it goes to the solenoid there is no power. The Yellow/Red going into the MPEM and coming out do not have connectivity thru the MPEM. When I connect the post of the solenoid the engine turns over.

Can someone tell me if this make sense? I don't use a test meter like this much. I disconnected the MPEM from all connections and tested with Ohms continuity on my tester. These are my results. Does this mean I need a new MPEM and DESS?

Multi-Purpose Electronic Module (MPEM) Verification The multi-purpose electronic module testing must be done with all wires disconnected from circuit. Otherwise testing equipment (ohmmeter) could be damaged. CAUTION : When disconnecting wires, BLACK /RED wire must never touch solenoid positive terminal. When replacing a MPEM, make sure to replace it with the right model. Refer to the following chart for MPEM testing. Always respect polarity in chart.

To close this out. When you think you are sure you have a good ground go ahead and run a temporary ground to the box. I ran the temporary wire and the MPEM works as it should. It is usually the simple things. Thanks for all the help, I should have posted this a few weeks ago.
