Hello all, Im having a problem with my 1996 SeaDoo GTX. It will run good for about 20 to 30 seconds then will lose power. I can shut it off and let it sit for a second or two then start it back up and it will run good then the same thing. Last year it ran good after I replaced all the fuel lines and cleaned the screens in the carbs. I have gone thru the carbs again but looked fine. Any ideas of what the problem might be. Thanks……….

Thanks for the reply. I have checked the filter but not the fuel selector switch. I will look at it. It idles fine but the more gas I put to it starts to miss bad until I cut it off then runs good for about 20 seconds or so. Is there anyway I can check the fuel switch or just replace it?

you can remove the fuel line, from filter to carb, and take that end, and go directly to the "res" fitting, on the tank. This way, your bypassing the filter and switch. Will let you know, if it does/doesnt fix the problem. Leave the switch at "off", while testing.

I just took all the fuel lines off the selector switch and it has no restriction seems to be clear. Also double check the filter and it is clean.

install the line from filtter to carb, and install it to the "res" fitting on tank. Then try/fire ski up.

Just got the carbs back on and moved the gas line from carbs to the res. Engine sounds good in driveway going to take it to the lake to see how it does will let you know.

Thanks

Seadooya, took it back out today, same deal runs good for about 10 sec or so and then rpms drop to around 5,000 and starts missing bad. Can cut it off then start it back up runs good untill about 10sec then samething.

clip your plug wires back...did you replace intake gaskets when you pulled the carbs? how do they look you may have torn one! i went to checker auto and bought a sheet of gasket and cut like 20 new ones out of it.....you should build a pop off tester..this way you can leak down your carbs, do pop off.....

I just had a similar problem, last week I replaced all of the fuel lines and cleaned the screens and filters. When I launched the ski the other day it ran very poorly, a friend suggested switching to reserve, I thaught he was nuts, but tried it. The ski ran much better but would still start to hesitate at about 35mph. Yesterday I bypassed the reserve valve, the ski runs like new. I'm guessing that air was getting into the line, possibly through the reserve valve. I just ordered a new valve. :hurray:

gaskets look good, I cut the plug wires back last year. I will check them again and see what they look like...

Thanks

Bill314 I by-passed the valve completely. Ran hose going to carbs to “res” @ tank. Still samething. Don’t think it is in the valve.

locate the rectifier, and unplug the red wire. Make sure ski has good/new fully charged battery, and try again. If problem is gone, replacethe rectifier...

Rectifier seams to be ok, I charged the battery and undid the red wire going to the rectifier. Took it out and still the same thing.
