hey guys, have a 1996 GTI three seater with the 717 motor, back in mid to late 08 i put my jetski away in my garage since i was finishing up college, at that time it had a battery in it and a little bit of gas but i tried to make sure the water was out of the system when i was running it on the trailer at the ski ramp. well just this past week i got it out of my garage, i pumped out the old gas out of the tank and put in 3 fresh gallons of 87 gas and got a new battery thats an 2010 battery, one of the nice $90 from the parts store (previous battery was like a number 16 battery with 275cca and the new one i got was a number 20 battery and 310cca) . so i get that wired up with the two cables, everything seems correct there. i pop on the DESS keys and i get the light up of basic guages and the double quick beep. goto press the red start button and nothing, not even a solenoid click. now using deductive skills, i would think that its the starter relay, starter solenoid or the starter. where are the starter relay or solenoid (depending if it has one or both as i do not know) and what is it most of the time? kind of confused that it was parked running and now i cant even get the starter to turn over.

thanks

When they sit... wires corrode. Since you are getting beeps... I would start with cleaning the connections of the main cables to the starter, the grounds, and to the solenoid. Once they are clean... if it still doesn't crank... jump the solenoid to spin the starter. If you got 2 beeps, and you get the starter to spin... it should start. If it doesn't spin... it's time for a starter.

One other thing. Did you fog the cylinders when you put it away 2 years ago? If you didn't... I would spry in some fogging oil, and turn the engine by hand a few revolutions to break up any rust in the jugs.

so i pulled out the mpem box, pulled both fuses and they look fine, switch turns on the gas guage without the DESS key. so battery, cables , solenoid or starter, which i test later today

it is most likely the solonoid switch. open up the grey box and you will find the solonoid. jump across the solonoid to check the starter. if starter ingauges its the solonoid.

so i worked on the jetski, seems to be the solenoid, with a test light i checked that i was getting power at the correct places, the thick red cable from battery was good, the little red wire piggybacking the terminal that goes to the encapsulated part was good (backprobed it at the box too) the red wire next to that red wire was good as it had output, and the yellow wire with red strip lit up with the text light when i pressed the starter button so i know everything leading up to the solenoid is good (just in case any tiny wire that may of crapped out). so used insulated grip pliers and the motor turned over, but i still gotta work on the plugs and carbs as it started to run and then died, so just got one small puff of smoke.
