95 XP 800 Drive Shaft Bearing Gets Boiling HOT

Ok my 1995 XP 800 Drive shaft bearing gets so hot the grease drips out of it after about 5 mins of running it hooked up to a garden hose. I have used the alingment tool it is aligned perectly, the bearing is brand new and I have replaced the drive shaft what else would cause this to happen? is it possible the impeller bearings are bad? I have also heard of some sort of carbon seal that replaces the carrier bearing all together PLEASE HELP

The only problem with putting it in the water is this happend before I rebuilt it and the bearing got so hot it melted the seals and it just about sank. I figured the bearing was just old and failed I mean it is almost 15 years old any other sugestions?????

How long are you running it on the hose?

You definitely do NOT want to be running on the hose for 5 minutes or more. Those bearings are cooled by the water running around them, and on the hose, they are not cooled and will heat up.

If they have gotten that hot once, they may be toasted. And if you have lost a lot of lube, it may be time to inspect and re-work the bearings.

Take the spark plugs out and turn the PTO by hand and see if you can feel or hear any "grindage" back there.

If not, run it for 30 seconds on the hose, and see if it is really hot. If it is just warm, you may be OK.
