I'm new to boating and need help and suggestions. I'm looking at a 1995 Speedster and a 2003 Sportster LE.

1995 Speedster
Twin 80 Hp / $2300 less / needs a good cleaning / minor wear and tear / seller stated it never had any issues

2003 Sportster LE
Single 130 Hp / $2300 more / looks newer and better / 4th seat / seller stated that it was barely used

Should I send the extra money to get the newer 2003 or save the money and get the 1995 with more power? (does newer 2003 engine = better engine?)

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks guy...

Now I'm definitely leaning toward the 03, I just hope it got enough power to pull a tube or ski...

Oh it will, if you have the extra chips laying around I would go newer, but more power is always a good thing.

I'm going to be the odd ball here and say go with the 95, only because I have a 96 speedster and for me the power is great and mine needed a little TLC aswell. And I paid 3200.00 for mine. It was mechanically sound just needed some cosmetic stuff. But the other thing I want to bring to the table is, what if your single engine boat goes out? I know with my dual I will always have another engine to limp me back if one goes out. Just keep that in mind.

That is 9 years difference!:ack: Look at a baby versus a 9 year old. There is a bit of a change there.

Doing the math, that is a $255 per year difference. Sorry. It is going to have to be a bit more of a stretch for me to go with a older boat with some obvious issues, wear and tear and cleaning....:reddevil:

ive had a 98 sportster and a 2002
but the 2002 was better at handeling and wasent that much slower than the 98
ive got a 2005 sportster now 215 sc and ive had nothing but problems ,
expensive problems.(should have stayed with the trusty 2 stroke)
but id go with the newer defo becouse on the older it will be wear and tear yes but things start breaking on every outing pipes to change !carbs to clean !looming engine rebuilds!ect ect ect!
also i dont see that many newer 2 stroke skis on the forum needing repair!

The 95 has a twin engine but only one water intake so it suffers a little on the take off. The engines (717) are solid and with good care should last. Hull parts are all discontinue so you will have to buy used. Mechanical parts are available.

The 03 has the 951 engine. That engine is one of the reasons Seadoos has a bad rep.
