hi all,
I just purchased a 95/97 xp 800. I sent down a buddy of mine to pick them up from a guy that claimed they were "great." compression good on both machines 135-150. They took them on the water and seemed to be a little sluggish but ok. Probably not run in awhile.
Anyway, we get them back up here, the 95 wont start first day we take it out and the 97 we run for an hour. Runs good full throttle, a little sluggish on acceleration. Shut the machine down for 20 minutes and get back on it, and it wont go over 10mph without shutting down. It wants to take off but then shuts off. So i limp the machine back to trailer. Bring both machines back home and went right thru the carbs. Put a new battery in the 95 and she fired right up.
As it stands now, both machines run very well idling and rev up, but backfire like a ******!! I haven't put them in the water yet, but in my driveway at wide open throttle, they backfire big time. I feel I did a good job on the carbs. Everywhere I read, everybody says the RV is off. I did not touch that when I was working on the machines. I dont understand how it could be off in time if i didnt touch it. On top of the fact that it ran fine a few days prior. Anyone have any input?
