94 XP Runs wide open then loses power

Hello group,

My 94 XP 657X will run very fast and clean, and then will drop down to an idle. If I let off the throttle and ease it back, it'll pull right back up out of the water, and repeat the cycle. Just a note... I do pre-mix my gas at 40:1. I checked the fuel filter and it looked clean.

Other than this issue, it is a great running machine.

Any thoughts?

check you're pto coupler boot. i shredded mine up and i am having the same problems. its a $15 part. if not check you're wear ring and prop

Thanks, I replaced the pto coupler boot at the beginning of the season, but I'll check the others.

Same problem. Nearly resolved.

I am also in Alabama and I just bought a 95 XP and it was doing exactly the same thing. It was so bad that it could not be ridden. I have it 95% solved.

I emptied the gas tank and the oil tank and refilled both with clean new gas and oil.

Replaced the small oil pump lines.

Premixing like you as I don't trust the pump.

Cleaned the front canister filter.

Took the carbs off and cleaned the two small internal carb filters and blew out the jets.

Ran carb cleaner through the carb.

Cleaned the plugs.

Cleaned the intake spark arrester screen.

We ran for three weekends, both days each weekend and three tanks of gas until finally it bogged a little twice at WOT on the last day and quickly recovered. I am at 1/3 tank, so I am thinking it was just sloshing a little.

I would check the items above. I bet it will help.
