My '94 xp wouldnt start - starter solenoid was clicking but nothing. Upon investigation I discovered the starter solenoid had melted and had taken a couple of other wires with it - Black wire melted through and yellow/black wire connector melted. After repairing the damage as soon as i connect the battery the starter solenoid tries to operate even though the lanyard isnt attached. I've assumed the MPEM is fried so I ordered a replacement from the net . When it finally arrived it is the wrong model. 278000413 - for 1994 SPX XPI GTX. It doesn't have the white wire that goes to the Amplifier ? Should I try it ? Could it work? or do I have to send it back and wait weeks for a replacement / refund? Am I on the right track anyway?

Thanks for any help or advice

somewhat sure, it will not work, since yuor ski has the (657-X) motor, and that mpem is for the (657), so i think the amount of wires from the stator assy, play a role.

Module arrived

Hi the MPEM arrived this week but I'm not sure its going to work - I should have checked the wiring diagrams before. The '95 wiring diagrams don't show any connection for the white/gray wire? The module I have has a white wire that has a male end on it and splits to the magneto and the amplifier. The module you have sent has a female end on it. Do you have any advice?

comparison

XP & SPX = SPX is last years version of the XP plus any updates

1995 SPX 657X engine 278000423 MODULE-ELECT. $419.49 $419.49
278000029 (OBSOLETE) MODULE-VTS. $0.00 $0.00
oil/fuel gauge speedometer VTS

1994 XP 657X engine 278000071 MODULE-ELECT. $419.49 $419.49
278000029 (OBSOLETE) MODULE-VTS. $0.00 $0.00
oil/fuel gauge tachometer VTS

Compare the wireing diagrams, you might add a speedo kit. Look at 6-pin connector, A-position is system power
B-common ground

On one side all the wires exit the black potting. The white with black stripe is all by
its self one the one side OPPOSITE the end 8 wires exit. near that wire a grey wire
exits, then its 10" or so to a double, one is male end the other female.

The white w/bk on the 423 module is a female. If you need a male to splice, I can
mail you one, or you can use a wire butt connector. I do not have a 071 module.

Let me know if you need a PDF on 1994 & 1995's, I could E-mail'm. Bills86e
