94 xp 657x rebuild question

so i have a 94 xp 657x. and the motor blew up about five years ago and did a rebuild on it new crank, pistons everything. after i had gotten it all back together tried firing it up and it would turn over and sometimes start then die right away or you would have to give it some gas for it to keep running and if i would try to give it gas to actually get move it would fall on its face and not do anything. so my question is have i done something wrong on the rebuild? and keep in mind this was about five years ago so young and kinda knew what i was doing but wasnt 100% sure on if i did everything right. but after it wouldnt do anything i just put it in storage. so know i want to work on it and get it running again. i cant do anything til i get a new starter for it but and advice would be very helpful thanks

Did you use a degree wheel when you installed the Rotary Valve? If you put it on a half tooth off, you can flip it over to get it in correct time.

Consult your Shop Manual and go over the mechanical RV timing & Stator timeing. Clean your tank, lines, selector,separator and go thru the carbs. Read the Sticky on carbs, go to links, watch the vids. Do a leak-down test After you re-assemble them.

Leak test your JP cone also. Clean wire out all cooling nipples & lines. Align & re-shim your motor, grease your zerks.
You should be back on the water in a day! Use Marine Stabil at fill-up.

i have a question about the exhaust mainfold are the 580 and 650 ones the same? mine has these markings on it 6978 347, rx 02.

so i got my starter and put it in. but it doesnt want to start it turns over and it is getting gas and spark. and sometimes it will fire up. but as soon as you let go of the green start button it shuts off. idk can my buttons be bad in some way or is it something else??
