I am new at this. My 94 SPX has a problem that I am at a loss to explain. After flawless service for 15 years, it now stops running after 10 minutes. It will restart but fails to run more than a few seconds. If allowed to cool down over night it will restart after some cranking and run again for 10 or so minutes and then quit again with the same start, quit regimen as before. Power is good and runs flawlessly until it quits.

I have changed the carb diaphram, cleaned both the inline and carb fuel filters. No trash found in either. The engine does not feel hot to the touch after shutdown. This all began after craft was allowed to wallow in shallow water with sandy bottom. Craft was taken to waist deep water before starting.

while servicing the carbs, did you replace the grey fuel lines? Make sure, the inline fuel filter is good..o-ring, etc..if rotted look'n, replace the filter with one from auto store.

Hey! Thanks for the quick reply. I have been reading the problems of others and found someone else that had similar problems. The grey fuel lines must be a problem. My fuel valve is difficult to turn so I took the proper size wrench and turned it back and forth to free it up...but from what others have said that might have a restriction. My next action is to replace those grey fuels lines and take the fuel valve off to see what gives there. The inline fuel filter looked new when I cleaned it but I might replace it with another in line filter. I had 15 years of maintenance free service from this SPX...I cannot complain! Thanks again!

thats awesome...if show the ski a little love...aka, not beach'n it, start'n it in deep water, keep'n oil and gas,...they last.

Yup, if you had to turn the fuel selector in that way, I'd say its full of crap. You can bypass it, from running the "res" line from tank, to the inline filter, and putting a cap over the "on" line fitting from tank.

Thanks TIMMYBOY! By the way, what size are the fuel lines on the SPX? And are all the same size? I cannot wait to change out everything since I have expert advice! It will be later in the week before I can replace the fuel lines and fuel valve (or bypass it), but I will let you know if this procedure works. Thanks again!

Well, Timmyboy, I am back. I did all that you told me to do and I am still in the same position I was a week ago. And believe me when I say that i am grateful to your suggestions...I did not know where to start. As I stated in my first posting all my troubles began after the seadoo was in the surf/sand. Is it not possible that the internal cooling system is clogged? If so, how do I clean this out and do I need to buy something to assist me? I have replaced the fuel valve, all fuel llines (tuned out I had black lines but I changed them anyway. I replaced the fuel filter with an auto filter (In line type). I checked the internal fuel filter and it had nothing in it. A new problem has started: when trying to start the engine after it died once again, I heard a loud "thunk" and now no water is being discharged from the back through the nozzle. HELP!!! Mutton.
