Ok, what we have is a 94 Sea Doo GTX, bought in June. It ran beautifully-top speed at 45mph. End of July, it started to make a funny squeaky or chirpy noise from time to time, nothing really loud. Couldn't locate where it was coming from until the next time we went out and the noise turned into a horrible screeching from the jet pump area at anything above wake speed. Took pump apart and discovered that the impeller had somehow moved and was eating into the shoe. The guy we bought it from gave us another housing, put a new impeller, new wear ring etc. Took it out next morning, no screeching, felt great, until we got out of the no wake zone. With WOT I should have been at 45mph, but it topped out at 30. Since then this is what we have done to fix it, rechecked all fuel lines, vents, etc for blockages, changed out fuel, changed all filters several times, rebuilt orig carbs, also tried 2 additional sets of carbs, carbs and oil pump synced, throttle cable checked and set properly, new plugs, trimmed plug wires, New rectifier, new coil, found and repaired an exhaust leak, checked compression, great compression both cyls read 147! So after all this, we gained maybe 2mph...and the ski still acts the same, it will crank, idle, low end and mid range just fine, but I have no top end-no high rpm or power. What could be the cause?

Hi Bill, Thanks, timing is fine, thought it would be. Ski runs smooth, no backfiring, hiccups, hesitation...just has no top end power or rpms...

I've been told that there is no need to use a timing light on a 580cc, that all that is required is to align the timing marks on the stator and housing. Is that incorrect. If so, what is the procedure?

its the pump. Did you re-install the old impellor, or keep the one from the new pump...either way, inspect both, if at all, a slight bend in blade, it'll perform, what your say'n....and/or the wearring is junk.
