I have a seadoo I might go look at. It is a 94 gtx said the engine was just rebuilt. He said it needs a cdi now.

I did some searching. He said it is 400 bucks to replace.
Is the mpem the same thing?
How hard is it to change?
Is there anything I can do to make sure its only that.

Is the raised rear seat the 94 or 95 ? he says its a 94 but it looks like the raised seat started in 95.

I really appreciate it

On all of the early SeaDoo's... there is a separate CDI unit. But, if you are buying a non running seadoo... only pay "Scrap" price for it. Even if the seller is telling the truth about the new engine... there can be a lot of other problems that will keep it from running right.

That ski in good running order, and cosmetically clean is only worth $1000. If it's not running, I wouldn't pay more than $500 for it.

The last thing to consider... parts for anything older than 1996 isn't going to come from a dealer. So... if you need a CDI, it's going to be an eBay part.

Dr honda,
Thanks for replying.
It is close to that scrap price you listed.
I am new to seadoos, but have worked engines before.
Is this cdi unit a difficult swap?
What type of paperwork do I need to get this registered?
A bill of sale, do they have titles like a car?
I am going to have to become a premium member, this is a great resourse

Every state is different, so check with your local DMV about boat laws. (in PA, the boat and fish commission takes care of boat registration/titles) But I will say this... In every state that I've dealt with... a PWC will have a title. If he doesn't have it... don't touch it because getting a new title may be next to impossible. (even if the VIN number is clean)

The CDI is easy. Unplug it, and plug in the new one. BUT.. the stator, the mpem, or ignition coil could be bad too. (or any other support electronics) AND... even if you get it running, you could find that they is problems with the pump, and drivshaft seals. This is why I say it's only worth scrap price.

Regadless... Good luck with it.

Thanks again Tony
I just asked him about a title, and will see where it goes.
I really appreciate the help.
It sounds like seadoos can get very exensive
I have a 04 rev skidoo that had ceramic rings that went twice.
not cheap.
Is there a reliable place to get part #s for the CDI. I found one on ebay, but am not sure what part # i need
