93 xp - smoking & lots of oil in exhaust

Hello, my first post here and, of course, I've got issues.

When I got the ski it had an exhaust leak in the engine compartment and a slight oil drip out the exhaust when running (a drip drip drip type leak). Oil was not going into the hull.

The exhaust leak was fixed with a gasket and some welding. No more smoke in engine compartment. However, it now has a near steady stream of oil coming out of the exhaust (along with smoke). Not drips, ounces. Unless I am completely mistaken it is coming out of the water exhaust hole (don't know proper name).

Original story was that there was just some oil build up in the exhaust and it would work itself out. Now the story is it's a crankseal leak, which requires a crankshaft!?! Other than that, it starts and runs great :)

I'm fairly engine literate and knew my way around 2 stroke motorcycles about 20 years ago. All help is appreciated and I'm guessing based on the weekend that most of the master mechanics here are actually out on their functional equipment so I'll be patient.

wouldn't think its seals leak'n. Take to Mission Bay, and run it. i'm guessing, being 93, just has ALOT of buildup, melting inside exhaust system...

hmm, and welding on the tuned pipe probably turned it to goo huh? it almost looks like the oil reservoir is hooked to the tail pipe. Just cranking it pumps out what looks to be straight oil.

What have you learned Dorothy?

Ok, so I got adventurous...my apologies in advance if I call some parts by the wrong name.

Took my good ski out on Sunday, in trying to show my friend what this one was doing it seems I thought I fried the starter so, I removed the tuned pipe and next funnel looking section prior to the muffler to reach the starter, starter bench tested sat so I found the solenoid... if I hit start button, solenoid clicks, jump solenoid with screwdriver, starter turns.

Here's the fun and messy part. The slightest crank and raw oil pumps directly out the exhaust manifold. I used a compression tester and both cylinders are 150+, more like 180+.

So this is not a case of goo in the pipes and if I've read other posts correctly it's not a lower case seal. Oil is not flooding the top half, so what separates the bottom end oil and the exhaust manifold? Looking at the diagrams posted above and running my hands along the lines it seems the bottom end has a direct connection to the oil reservoir.

You will either have to replace the crankshaft or replace the seals on the crankshaft, which requires the crank to be completely pressed apart.

implellor seal

i have a 1998 gtx that had the same problem leaking oil in the exhust and smoke, i had the implellor seal replaced and that fixed the problem
