93 GTX Cylinder Removal - PTO Question

Last week while crusing down the River my Doo stopped.

The PTO would not turn unless I use a pipe wrench, even with plugs out.

I've been informed via the Forum to pull the head. That was easy and when I accomplished that task I found a lot of white colored crud, but no rust.

I presume my next task is to pull the cylinders and that will get me access to check out the reason for the PTO freeze.

Am I correct? Do I pull the cylinder?

Then what????
 
That "white crud" is deposits from the water in the cooling jackets. If it is run in salt, the elements will deposit even heavier. As for the crank turing with difficulty with the spark plugs out, and ruling out something really odd, then it is possible that you broke a rod or the crank. I am not completely familiar with the rotory valve, but you may want to read up on it prior to engine diassenbly...although cyl removal is not that big a deal.

PS, do the pistons go up and down when turning the crank? If so, then the internals maybe in good condition and you have an external issue (broken magnets on stator, rotor valve, etc.)
 
Next is to check and be sure the pump has nothing jammed in it... If thats ok I would pull the rotary valve cover and take a look.. I had one of mine do this a couple of weeks back... A ring broke and fell into the rotary valve plate.. So now it's time for a piston and a valve plate...
 
I would check the jet pump bearings be sure they haven't gone south for the winter. I had a ski do this and i thought it was the motor, but turned out to be the bearings in the jet pump.
