91 GT Starts and runs by its-self?

We recieved a 91 GT that will start its-self and run while in tow to the water. very strange. pulled the starter solenoid and replaced, boat will start and run off of the start button. you kill it and walk away, it will start on its own and run. even without the lanyard on the post. (old school push in post). any ideas? :ack:

you got a ghost on your hands... and he want's to ride... ahve you checked your post to see if it is shortin out and making a open circuit? jus an idea

well post seems to be ok, it will not run with the key off the post but it will try to start. sits there and cranks. i told the customer to put er out to pasture and i will get em a newer one. lol. na but really, i am scratchin my head.

ha... lol, is the actual starter grounding out????

i think so. when i jump the solenoid, after she starts and runs, the starter keeps on spinning. we still have this old clunker here. basically re-wired the whole boat.
