Got the new starter installed today and used a shop motorcycle battery to turn the motor and check for ignition gave it a sniff of starting fluid and success.. The motor fired and sounded good I only ran it for a few seconds but all checks out good so far. Took a compression test and have 155lbs on both cylinders. This motor has not been started since 2006 so I'm going to replace the fuel filter and look everything over very close before running the motor for any extended time so far all is better then expected.
Now for the battery question, is a pwc battery necessary or will a motorcycle or other 12 battery work ok? Is it all about cranking amps or is there more to it. The battery used today was a bit small for the tray but worked fine so I'm just wondering if a garden tractor battery with 320 cranking amps will do the trick as well as a $90.00 pwc battery..
Thanks again...
