787 starter spins but doesn’t engage

Hey guys
So i have a 97 GSX 787 . It was running perfectly one day. Next day go to start it and the starter just spins and nothing happens. I removed the starter to check on the bendix and that it moves freely and has no rust ring etc and it was in good condition. Even the teeth were all perfect.
what should be my next angle of attack here? I’m pretty lost now. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The Bendix only from Seadoo is $149 and a brand new OEM starter is $239, I would spend the extra $90.

I’m fine with spending the money if that is the part that is needed. I am just worried that it could be an electrical issue and I’ll buy a starter and it still won’t work. Am i crazy for thinking this? Thanks guys
