Hey guys I’ve got a completely rebuilt 2000 gti with 3 hours of break in. I am running 1oz of oil per gallon of gas during break in but whenever I try to accelerate from idle speeds the ski wants to die unless I twitch the throttle a bit. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where exactly the low speed adjustment is that would be great. I’m pretty sure I know where it is but I just need some reassurance. Thanks

It's the lower adjustment on the carb body. It has a roll pin through it and the high speed needle does not.

2001 GTI - model 5647/5657, and any of the other 717s using as single BN-40i-38: main jet is 167.5, pilot jet is 75. Initial low speed adjustment is 1 turn out. LS screw is on the side of the carb where the throttle cable connects. Your pop-off pressure should be 36-40 psi. Set your out of water idle speed to 3k RPM. Use a tach. In water idle should be 1500 RPM.

If your carb is set up properly using the initial settings outlined above - test the check valves in your fuel system. There are two of them. If the check valves are good and the fuel system holds pressure, read your plugs. Lots of info in the forums - your plugs should give you a good idea of what's going on.

Oil injection pump is still in play, right? Assuming supplemental oil in the fuel tank is strictly for break in?

Awesome thanks for all that. And yes I still have the oil pump hooked up.

Awesome thanks for all that. And yes I still have the oil pump hooked up. And yeah I’m only using that extra oil for break in.
