Yanked the '717 out of a 2001 GTS that had crashed into the dock at 50mph (not me haha).

I have a 1996 or so sporster with the 657x. The crank seals are wiped so the engine fills completely with oil sitting over night.

Anyhow, gonna swap the '717 into the boat. Probably better to keep the single carb on the '717 rather than the dual carb that is on the 657x right?

Yes, keep everything that came with the 720 on the 720.

I can’t remember if it’s the 657 or 657X now, but I believe one of them has an electrical setup that is compatible with the 720 stator and one does not. Does the stator and coil have to be swapped over to run the 720 in a boat that had the X?

I feel like when I looked this up last year the x motor was the same electronics as the '717. I think there was a 4 wire and a 5 wire. I need to look at both more closely t his weekend. Boat has been in storage and I was rebuilding another '717 for one of my PWC's.

I have a twin engine speedster I think it is with two '717s as well, those are dual carb. One of the engines is locked up and the interior is junk so that boat is getting parted out.
