Are there any good mods for these skis? I understand these are the X3 not X4 hull type. Also not looking to swap motors or anything just looking to wake it up a bit if possible. They are both identical and getting like green grips and blacktip mats, and matching OH numbers.

Are there any kids that will make them handle better or increase speed? Are ride plates any good since these do not have trim? Are there sponsons to help these carve better? Are changes in the impeller or jet worth it? Are there any motor performance mods?

Thanks

A 94 SPX has the 657. The 94 XP would have the 657X.

I agree that the sponsons are a must for handling. The usually keep the little boats from porpoising so bad also. If it still seems too bouncy then I have a ride plate extension that bolts under the pump.

The right aftermarket impeller and flame arrestors with a carb re-jet can wake the motors up a tad without hurting reliability but they (the X models) are pretty high strung right out of the box. It's a very small and light package to be getting 80HP out of.

Matt, I got that impression after doing so readingnjust wanted to know if there was anything I could do reliably.

What fife plate extension and flame arrestor do you recommend? I haven't been able to find the arrestor. Also what impellerndonyou reccolend?

Thanks!

Awesome I'll be in contact once they are sound.

I ended up trading my really rough 95 XP for a second 94 SPX to have a matching pair. In addition to trading skis, he is buffing and waxing both and spraying out the interiors, as well as restoring all the plastic. I thought it was a nice way to get a matching pair. Will probably sell one in spring to buy my buddies XPL

Sounds like you just have the 657 engines. I'd just bring the maintenance up to speed and then enjoy them until you move into a larger and faster ski. There is just not a lot of performance potential in those engines.

Also Matt Braley is there anything I can do to help with choppy Lake Erie? Trying to bounce less. Any input on ride plate/sponsons/other handling/pump mods?

I will look to see what I have. I do have a pair or 94SPX's here so I'll check for ride plate extensions. They lengthen the hull to help smooth out the bouncy ride. Sponsons will do it also because the water that runs under them keeps the nose down.

An aftermarket intake grate can help keep the pump hooked up in choppy water. It's always scooping water in so you don't get as much free revving when the hull is bouncing through the waves.

You can text me at (850)259-1581 during the day if you want and I'll shoot you pics and shipped prices of some of this stuff.
