Hi,
I want to start a thread on the 4-TEC's and will be adding information as I go along. Last year, there were no members here with issues or questions about the 4-TEC. This only goes to show you how well the design of this engine truly is. It can be an electrical nightmare if you have a short, because it's entirely computerized, but when it's running great, you can't beat it for performance.

This is true!

:agree: This statement is true in any new piece of equipment or design. When the 951 first came out, man, the only thing there was to talk about was the slower speeds of the 717cc's........you didn't hear to much about the 787's.....still fairly new and running like scaled dogs.

Now, the 951 DI motor has fast become one of the most worked on motors.

The 4-TEC, while for the most part, relatively still new (only 5 years or so old), hasn't had enough time to have enough exposure in the "break down" category. But compared to this time last year, I'd say I've seen a 20% rise in problems related mostly to the electronics, not the mechanics of the engine.

That's why I kinda stay away from them. An electrical nightmare. There is basically nothing someone like me can do with them. I can rebuild and repair anything up to the 951's, even with the engine management system, but not the 4-TEC. Without the B.U.D.S. software and a computer, your all but screwed. I guess, one day, I'll break down and get a laptop with the software..........but it will be to do the work I do now from home. It would be useless on the forum.

BTW, there is a thread on the 4-TEC's.................
