4 TECH ENGINES LONGEVITY (truth)

yip, just spent $400 replacing my intercooler.

Old one didn't leak, but it was the original, so frankly for an 08 it was about to be setting records for longevity, pretty filthy inside, might have been costing me some power, I did it strictly out of preventative measures.

Been thinking about that on my 09 RXT-X... What did you go with? Have you run with the new one yet?

I went with the SBT 2 year Intercooler "direct replacement" < not exactly, we had to beat the bracket with a 2x4 and a 3# hammer to make it fit, but that is probably because I have the riva hoses on there. Even then there was about 1/4inch clearance around the vts housing to get the coupler in.

We were about 3 minutes away from yanking out the old bracket and making a new one, but then decided that taking a hammer to the bracket "just might work" and it did.

I'll shoot you a text on the pricing for that, I thought it was quite reasonable compared to fizzle and other options.

FWIW, at least by appearance, it seems like a good quality item. (Team savage)

I haven't had it out yet, just did it Wednesday, hoping to make a short ride Saturday somewhere if I can find water with no friggen algae in it.

'05 RXT, original owner. Hydro-locked at 50hrs or so....my dumazz fault. SC touch down @ 175hrs or so because I was too cheap to do a full rebuild. Even though the bearing issue was in its infancy...it had been talked about and I did ignore advice so....my cheap dumazz fault. SS wear ring and taller prop.

Since then, rebuild sc at the 275hr mark or so, oil/spark changes in the spring.....bigger wheel....bigger ic.....more fuel.....another still taller prop....never babying....no mech issues and 300hrs+/-.
