I recently bought a 2005 4 Tec with out the super charger or inter cooler with 74 actual hours on it. When driving it around 4500 RPM it wants to surge up and down about 2 to 300 RPM so it wont stay at a steady speed, kind of irritating, we used to have a 2004 4 tec and that one stayed right were you set it. Any suggestions appreciated.

Any update on htis issue? I have recently started have a similar issue on my 2001 2 stroke, surges above 4,000 rpms and shuts off frequenlty when surging. No issues noticed under 4,000 rpms.

I've had this issue for ever. 2003 4tec SC (185hp). Tried new plugs, cleaning the idle motor, testing fuel pressure (stable), resetting the TPS and looking at the signal while it was running (stable) and replacing intake gaskets. My buddy had a non-sc 4tec and he replaced the idle motor (no change). Can fuel injectors be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner?

Could be the ECU
Try swooping it out with somebody has the same ECU

Injectors are best sent in for cleaning
They’ll check before cleaning and after and tell you if there is a great change
