I have discovered a leaking oil cooler! can I bypass the oil cooler and still use my jet ski at moderate revs? Still a few weeks of summer left and I don't want it to stay sitting at the mechanic? Will the engine stay cook enough with the oil cooler bypassed?

Oil coolers are simple to change. Take the 7 bolts out of the manifold, disconnect a few plugs and air intake, tilt intake manifold forward out of your way. pinch off antifreeze lines and remove clamps, remove 4 bolts and it's out. used ones can be found on ebay for $50.

I have used it without oil cooler for ten hours now never exceeding 5000 rpm and it works fine. Just wanted to be sure oils leak in coolant was from oil cooler. Maybe in us they are cheap. In Malta Europe they are expensive and a used one from USA will take some time to arrive!

It works find for now because wear takes time. Higher oil temperatures will lead to viscosity breakdown of the oil. When that happens, the lubrication qualities of the oil are diminished, and wear of internal engine components will increase drastically! It's not the RPM that breaks down the oil; it's heat, and you have removed the device that removes that heat.

Thanks I knew the issue was oil breakdown. Have ordered a new cooler and it's on the way. Will use the jetski conservatively in the meantime!

I wouldn't use it at all. If you think the cooler is expensive, look up the cost of bearings, pistons, rings, connecting rods, valves gaskets, O-rings etc....

Jet Skis are made by Kawasaki not Sea-Doo. Sorry to be so pedantic.

I know. When I bought my ski 12 years in wanted Yamaha or kawasaki but there was no agent in Malta at the time, so no support! Mine has 680 hours on the clock.. Never major engine problems but I don't even dare to tally the service bills so far.. They have too many things to go wrong. I flushed and serviced it religiously and still it gives problems.. Mine is the only one survivibg from 2003 in the area.. Bought it as it had largest cc, had no super charger and was with intercooler... But sea doo does not have anodes and in saltwater they suffer.. Never saw unbiased research but I think a yam or kwski will outlive a seadoo if maintained by the book and rinsed after each use....

SeaDoo does have sacrificial anodes...
