So what is the difference? One part number is for a '97 GTI, the other a 2000 GTS. Both are 140mm and both have the same pitch. The housings are the same part number (295500429).

Looks like the venturis are different, probably only because the GTS doesn't have reverse.

Anyway, wondering why I couldn't just take the housing/impeller off the GTS and stick it in the GTI, or the impeller, etc.

Why would the same size and pitch have different part numbers?

I'm not certain, but it's possible the one has a large hub pump (the latter) and the earlier one has a small hub pump (the 97), that would be my assumption WITHOUT looking at the microfiche or doing any research. I'm pretty sure the 97 has a brass stator pump and the 00 has a plastic stator pump.

Possibly just a part number change then

I put both pumps on the bench and I cannot tell any difference. Must be an updated part number.

The 97 has a cool plate that the hose nippes connect to, and the housing just has an oring, where the 2000 gts has the water tube nipples pressed into the housing. I think the 97 gti is a better design.
