210 wake taking on water... help

So I noticed I'm taking on water where the shifter cable comes through the hull I pulled it out of the water armed the plastic nut/ rubber thing broke on the outside and it appears the epoxy on the inside is also allowing water through.

Anyone run into this and have tips on where to start? Is that crappy nut/rubber grommet thing the main culprit or the epoxy on the inside of the hull?

I've read that these are prone to failing. You should replace the lock nut assembly. I believe the original is plastic, but they make aluminum ones. I picked one, but have yet to install it.

Same here mine is damaged I have the replacement. One day I'll put it on
