I have a 2006 Speedster 200 Wake. Today, I removed the port side engine and in the process snapped the cable that operates the weedless system grate. This cable runs through the bottom of the hull. This system hasn’t operated once in the 8 years that I’ve owned the boat. The previous one or two owners removed the components that operate the grates, but left the cables and siliconed around them inside and outside of the hull. Now that the cable is broken, I have to find a reliable way to seal up the little hole that the cable ran through. I have no intentions on searching and paying for a part that is likely discontinued and will serve no purpose other than sealing up the hole in the hull that it ran through.
My thought would be the following: Put a long enough stainless pan-head machine screw generously coated with silicon up from the bottom of the hull with rubber gaskets on the outside and inside of the hull. I’m thinking on doubling up some stainless nyloc nuts after coating the threads of the screw with loctite 242 blue thread locker.
I’d like to know if anyone thinks any part of what I’m doing is a bad idea, could use improvement or if anyone has a better suggestion on sealing these small holes up.
