Hi all-

I'm new to the whole PWC world, and just now getting into the market for one. Originally was thinking used to save some money, but honestly the more I've thought about it the more nervous I've gotten about buying used. A car you can test drive, but a PWC you can't even really start it, and while I'd like to think that the person I bought it from would care for it like I would, that's probably not a very good assumption. So anyways, been looking more at new lately and I've somewhat zeroed in on the GTI 130 (as stupid as it seems, I really like the idea of the iBR system, especially the neutral aspect which Waverunners appear to lack as far as I can tell). Being a newbie though, I've got a couple of questions for the masses:

1) is this (GTI 130) a good starter model? As a little background, I'm looking for just an all-around machine. Solo-riding along the occasional tubing or wakeboarding excursion. I looked at the Spark specs, and while I definitely like the price it just seemed a little too weak for that...

2) being a (semi) recent college grad on a bit of a budget, is now a good time to buy? It seems like a lot of dealers have pretty good sales going on right now (for example, saw this particular one for $8k), but I'm pretty unfamiliar with the market...are prices likely to dip further or are most dealers going to be limited to stock on hand at this point in the season? I really don't mind having to wait until February to purchase if that's what it takes, but I'd rather not pass now and then have to pay $2k more when the season kicks up again. I realize that this is a pretty vague question but I'm hoping someone can at least give me some general advice.

i just bought a 2015 gti 130 and absolutely love it! before i bought it i did some research on the hull/ride style that fits me most. 1: one that cuts through chop better than my previous gsx 2 seater (where i ride the water is fairly choppy) the gsx beat the hell out of me. while the gsx is a fun ski and nimble, my older body cant handle the beating any more. the gti 130
plows thru it without the beating.
2: i was looking for the most nimble hull besides the spark and the gti fits the bill. the wake and the gtr have the same hull! with the gti, with some body language, i can spin 180's and 360's and it carves very well. not bad for a couch as some folks put it. it also has plenty of power for a 130hp. had mine topped at 54 mph so far via gps speedo. its a fun ski for sure. i would have liked to have a gti 155se or a limited but the dealer didnt have them in stock. i heard that the 155 has a little more get up and go and is a few mph faster but was told it wasn't significant enough to spend the extra $$ the only other thing i sort of miss that the 130se has is vts trim, but again, when i had my gsx i left it at neutral most of the time anyway.
the ibr is fantastic!
8 k isn't bad at all considering the msrp is 9299 if you were in boise the dealer here has one for 7299 brand new 2015. no setup fee or freight! just 75.00 doc and tax and title/registration. waiting till feb may be a gamble, unless you find a leftover year,

oh and welcome to the forum!:)

I bought a 2012 GTI130 with 36 hrs for my first ski. Great machine! Thought I'd start with it and move to something bigger later but really in no hurry I like it so much.

Nothing wrong with used.. I can buy used its same as car... Normally person selling it should be willing to be u on water to test it. They mite wanna make sure ur a serious buyer and have cash to actually pay for it before taking u out on water for a test drive

That's pretty much exactly what ideally I'd like to do (buy used, only a couple years old with low hours). Let someone else knock the price down! Unfortunately, that also seems like a pretty big gamble on my part, considering it's nearing the end of the season and prices are pretty good right now. I don't want to wait, not find the lightly used one I'm looking for, and then end up paying full price at the start of the season.

Here in Australia the GTI130 retails for around $15000 on a trailer brand new. Picked this one up for $8250 with brand new 2014 trailer. Spent about $1000 on 5 X life jackets, tube, ropes, anchor carry rack and a service. Good to go for $5500 less than new price.

Bought a 2012 GTI 155 SE last year with 3 yrs remaining on ext warrantee with Alum trailer. Love the ski. It great on rough water. Could not imagine ever getting a Spark or the need for a supercharged model. It's very economical to run and takes regular gas.

I bought a 2014 gti for 8500 this year. These things are awsome. If you can wait till 2016, buy a 2015 and you should be able to find one for about the same price as my 2014. My gti can pull a tube with ease using the sport key. Good luck
