I have a 2014 SeaDoo GTI. It was winterized by the dealer and has been on the
water 4-5 times this summer with no problems. Last night while anchored at a
small lake the weather turned pushing the ski (a long way) into a dock.

My ski got a bunch of deep scratches and gouges. It did NOT sink but it definitely
got wet for several hours. The waves weren't very high but the ski got knocked
around. I secured the ski but it won't start. The display comes on, the key is
in and I get the two beeps. When I try to start it I hear a click and the
displays turns off and turns back on. It is now dead in the water and the launch
ramp is roughly 3 miles away. There are a few marinas close by but I'm not sure
if anyone is qualified to handle a jet ski. Any help you can provide would be
much appreciated.

Sorry to hear of your problems.

The click is the solenoid switch. Try to short across the two posts of the solenoid switch and see if it will crank. IF not it is likely either a weak battery or a bad connection. I would lean toward a loose or dirty connection since when you put the load on it the display blanks out. All the banging around may have loosened a connection on the battery or one of the cables.

Let us know what you find.

+1 sounds like a battery issue.

Thanks for the quick responses! How exactly do I short across the two posts? I'm assuming you mean the positive and negative posts on the battery? If you can't tell by now I'm not very mechanically inclined.

The worst part is that we are at a rental cottage and know nobody down here. None of the neighbors appear to be home. This should be fun to get to the ramp so I can load the ski on the trailer. The nearest ramp is almost 3 miles. Calm lake...how far can I manually row this thing?

Get on your marine radio ch.16, see if someone on the lake will give you a tow. Don't declare an emergency, just that you need assistance.

BTW, DO NOT short across the battery, he's talking about shorting across the two posts of the solenoid, follow the red cable from the battery to the solenoid.

NO, not across the battery as mentioned in quote of LouDoo below. For future clarity, I went and edited my original post.

Again as stated by Lou.... follow the hot or positive battery cable to where it bolts to the solenoid switch. Right next to that will be another equal size cable going to the starter. With a screw driver short across those two posts. There will be some sparks. The starter should then begin to spin. This is bypassing the solenoid switch which is a know weak point in these units. This procedure will also tell you If the starter is good, assuming the battery has a good charge and all other connections are clean and tight. The click you are hearing is that solenoid switch trying to work, but it may not be making contacts internally. Hopefully you can get it started, If so, do not shut it off until at the ramp if you feel you need to load it up.

Well again thanks for all the help. This forum is outstanding! I was ableb to flag down a very nice family who gave me a tow to the ramp. Once I finally got on dry land I found a loose cable to the solenoid switch. Of course the battery was pretty low so I had to find a trickle charge. All the nearby marinas were closed so had to wait until morning. Should be ready by 1:00 today. The weather has been lousy so I only really missed one day on the water. Back home tomorrow though.

That's the good news. The bad news is I still need to deal with this when I get home. :banghead:image.jpg

Well, I know you were in a bad situation, but the good news is it appears the damage was cosmetic. On that new of a ski I would take it to a professional and have the gelcote repaired right.

Good idea Lou. Going to drop it off Monday to the marina where I purchased. Hopefully it won't be too much money.

Anyway it was a great day out on the lake. Thanks to you fine folks my family had a great day on the water. My wife even took my daughter out! Thanks again.
