Hi all -

neighbor is trying to sell his 2012 GTX and he asked me if i was interested, which I was. I was a bit late so an interested guy was there for the test and with a dead battery, he decided to let the guy jump start it, not realizing how important it be the car not running.

well of course it no longer powered on. I’ve swapped batteries and Nada. He needs money so i was hoping to help him diagnose and fix the issue on the cheap.

I know in older skis this kills the mpem but with these I’m unsure. Any checklist i should run thru?

things done so far:

Checked the fuses next to battery and they all seemed okay.

Changed battery

that’s it. This skis very complicated compared to my RXT!

If all the fuses are good and the battery is good then they probably did fry the MPEM.

the MPEM on these is the same as the ECU, right? Man, poor neighbor. I’m going to see about having that guy pay for his mistake - that’s not fair at all.

appreciate the input and I know he does too! Well grab an ECU and go in from there

Y’all are awesome. I’ll give that a shot and see what she does. Between his brother hydrolocking the motor (imo) and this other guy frying the ECU he shouldn’t let anyone touch this ski ever again

Okay I’ll try one more time with the 30 amp main relay, might have fried that and a lot cheaper than ECU. Completely dead ski is good clue. They are powered on by the dess post. I have read they are hard to troubleshoot unless you have another good one to switch it out with and if it is a protective relay? it might have done its job and saved the ECU.

You can't just buy an ECU and put it in and they cost around $700. It will have to be married to the gauge cluster so you will need dealer software or the like.

You should check the 30a fuses and the main relay next to it in the separate smaller fuse box right next to the big one first before you buy an ECU.

Just throwing this out there. I had a similar thing happen with my 08 gtx 215 (no mpem, just ecu) I showed up to buy it and the owner was trying to jump start it with a running car. I thought he fried it because nothing would happen when we put the DESS key on the post - and all the fuses looked good. Finally traced it back to this diode that was badly corroded on the pins. Replaced this diode and it fired right up no problem! i believe this diode is inline with the ecu... follow this li k to another thread that talks about blowing these diodes from improperly jump starting. (sorry if it's not allowed, please remove link if it's not allowed)

Ok on new models you need to press the start button to power up the ECU no need to put key on
Check the LCD lights up
If it doesn’t then check if the power relay clicks when someone presses the start button if nothing then need a volt meter to start tracing where the power goes up to
