Bumper only at PTO end. The bellows and carbon seal hold the shaft in fore/aft position. In the impeller end it actually could move into the impeller another inch or so if not for the carbon seal bellows.

Lack of maint is usual cause for what you had. Most home do-it-yourselfers change oil and plugs yearly but have never pulled the pump even once to check grease, oil etc in pump shaft. Salt riding worse.. Ton-o water proof grease regularly on splines extends life a bunch. Even worse on IBR machines because of the extra work required.
 
I’m replacing the whole thing today. Parts should all be here today. New driveshaft, impellar,wear ring, carbon seal and bumper. I’ll let u know how it goes. Thank you everyone for all the help.

Exactly. Very little grease left on the splines .
