Hi there,

My mother in law bought a 2008 RXT new and hasn't used it a whole lot. We are trying to get it ready for a trip coming up. I hooked up a water hose to the place on the back and fired it up and it ran fine. But here's the problem.

1. It beeps 4 quick times every 5 minutes or so when the battery is hooked up, unhooking the battery seems to be the only way to get it to stop. Although last night after i was done tinkering with it, it was beeping 4 times ever 5 seconds.

2. Initially once the battery is hooked up, everything is normal. As soon as you plug in the key, it beeps twice and will start up fine. However, once you remove the key it still will start up, as if it doesn't know the key has been removed. The only thing I haven't been able to check it if the engine shuts down if the key is pulled off the post.

I read that maybe water got in one of the electrical connectors so I unplugged the 3 I could find readily accessible (2 pin and 6 pin under handle bars, and 4 pin under dash area) and there didn't seem to be any water, although i blew them out anyways and plugged them back together.

At the point where it thinks there a key attached and there isn't, if I unplug the 2 pin connector (that i assume is the post) and plug it back in, it now thinks the key has been unplugged. Once I plug the key back in the same problem happens.

Although i haven't been able to check if the key being pulled off shuts down the engine, I assume it won't if it will start again after the stop button has been pushed, and key removed.

It maybe has 20 hours on it and like i said hasn't been used a whole lot or abused. I'm guessing the post needs to be replaced which is kind of a bummer cause its so new. Any help would be appreciated.

Probably a bad lanyard post... you can try spritzing it down with WD-40, and also spritz those electrical connections down with WD-40 too!

Last time I read of one starting without the lanyard on the post it was a bad post though.
