Hello all. Need some advice. Just recently took my GTX out of the garage but haven't rode it in about 20 months. Put a new battery in, changed the oil and oil filter and changed the spark plugs. Started fine dry and took it to the lake and everything worked fine for about 45 minutes. Had good rpm and speed topped out around 54 mph with two people. I was in the middle of a turn and then I started loosing rpm, the ski started acting rough and eventually quit and would not start. RPM would get between 250 and 480 but would not start. After several attempts I let it set for about 45 minutes. Started up but only ran for about 1 minute and then I would loose the rpm and it would die. Could this be a fuel starvation issue or could the fuel filter be stopped up or maybe something worse. Thanks for any reply.

Sounds like it. Check for spark. Change the fuel filter. If it still doesn't start, check the fuel pressure. This assumes you have already checked the fuses.

Thanks. Everytime i leave it sit for awhile it cranks back up. This happened yesterday, went out to the garage today and it cranked up with no problem which leaves me to believe i have spark. Checked pump fuse and it was fine. Is it possible to be able to clean it rather than replace. Found filters online for $25 for the lower one but i have read they have two but cant find a price or part number for the upper filter.

Additionally, I noticed that after I spent about 45 minutes trying to get it started, I opened the fuel tank cap and a lot of pressure came out which seemed unusual.

Went out today and it cranked but was really rough. Looked around the back of the engine and noticed water was coming into the wc, it was hooked up to a hose, and a metal fastener was broke off, see pics. Could this be the cause of the loss of rpm and eventually not starting? IMG_0885.JPGIMG_0886.JPG

mystman13,

You lost the exhaust clamp and the exhaust hose has separated from the muffler...

very often this results in very bad things happening.

1) Water pours in to your ski
2) You start to sink
2) Water gets in engine... more bad things happen... especially if you run the engine after this occurs.

You never mentioned if there was a lot of water in the hull after your ride. Was there?
Any other things you might not have mentioned?
Did you check the engine oil for water?

There was more water than normal but not a lot. I did check the oil today and didnt see any signs of water mixed in with the oil. I replaced the metal clamp after reconnecting the hose and ran it for about a minute on the garden hose and everything sounded better and got good rpm. Going to take it out tomorrow and see how it acts. Prior to losing rpm and having start issues my son said he heard a "pop" and then the rpm started declining. I am thinking now that the sound might have been the clamp breaking.

Thanks for the input. It was the hose clamp because my second seadoo did the same thing. Easy fix for both of them.
