2007 GTI When the start button is depressed sometimes starts sometimes not. Here's the deal.
Plug in DESS. 2 beeps.
Push the start button, Fuel pump starts, Solenoid Clicks, Sometime starts sometimes not. May starts right away, many take 20 times hitting the start button.
Checked Battery - Good
Checked all fuses in circuit with meter looking for high resistance. All good
Checked connections on all fuses, ECM, Solenoid, MPEM (best I could without taking it out) all were good.
Checked resistance of coil in solenoid, 5-6 ohms. Circuit between solenoid is open as it should be.
Checked voltage at solenoid from on battery side = 12VDC
Checked voltage on solenoid on the starter side 0VDC.
Attempt to start 12VDC remains on battery side and remains 0VDC on the starter side although the solenoid clicks. UNLESS it starts to crank, then we see the 12VDC on the starter side of the solenoid.
So my question... is this a 40.00 solenoid problem or a MPEM problem with not allowing the 12VDC to run down the start side of the solenoid. Can see from the diagram on the Electrical system that the ECM also plays a roll in the starting circuit but not sure signal comes from the DESS and start stop button to feed the ECM. After it is started it runs hard and good... we just never stop it once we leave shore not knowing if it will start again...
Looking for some help and advise from the experts on this formums. The 2007ski is new to me... had a 1994 GTX that ran good and ran hard till my bro burned it up.....

I am having the exact same issue with my 2006, my dealer has done nothing as far as fixing it. Supposedly BRP aren't aware of this issue, but I'm finding it all over the Internet. One person solved by changing the starter relay, another the solenoid.

GTI Starting Problems

For those watching the post.... reviewed other post and took a tip from another thread "1999 XP Limited starter works at home", but not after trailering" from a few of the experts that bless us backyard mechanics with their expertise.... no fouling I mean this.... timmyboy, drhonda, all things custom and seadoosnipe... you guys are good and we appreciate your postings....

Anyway, in the post it talks about taking the soleniod apart cleaning the contact and putting it back together... man you good Mr Customer if you can get this done..... since it was the first item I was going to replace before taking to the shop I took it a part... not to see how it ticks, but to find out it was bad before spending the 44.00 on a new one... and if by chance I could get baqck together... and make it work 44.00 savings with some time taboot.... well the contacts are burnt and all carboned up.... interesting... could clean up ... but getting it back together and making it work would be a real challenge. The touble shooting guide says to check for 5 ohms at the coil.... this shows good, but fails to take you the step further in finding a what to check the points... the only way to find out is take it apart... and that will cost you 44.00... Will drop by the dealer and pick up a new one... already checked to ensure they had one before destroying and will you all know if this is the fix. Ok.... now I still have a question for you that are watching this thread.... what in the tar after 25 hours is buring these points... shoot my 94 went 14 years and although I replaced the start due to being all wore out can't for the life of me understand this amount of carbon after less than a year and maybe about 7 outings. Any thoughts anyone..... design defect maybe.... early life failure of a soleniod... possible... feedback is welcomed... let you know if we get a fix.....

Some last and some don't. I think it's just poor choice of materials. It's been a problem with Sea-Doo's for a long time. There is now a newer updated version. The new ones are black and not brown. I always carry one or two with me as I replace several of these each season.

Starter relay and solenoid are the same thing.

Well, guess it comes down to a poorly informed dealer. The guys in Sarnia were well aware of the problem, even keep 3 or 4 relays in stock. I think the local guys are out of the loop.
