I have a exhaust leak from my manifold to my J pipe connection. The strength of the leak is like blowing on the palm of your hand while the engine is at idle. The leak is at the pipe manifold joint. Is this a common area for leaks on the 4 Tec's? Is some leakage normal? My engine tops out at 6800 rpm with this leak running I suspect I will get a power/speed increase after I fix it just fishing for thoughts and tips. With my wife and I on the ski right now we are only hitting 45 MPH.

Yep ... been there ... repaired that twice on one of my skis. The leak is at the front of the j-pipe expansion joint. Yes, it really kills engine performance since there isn't much oxygen in the exhaust gas. The first time I changed the j-pipe, the difference was immediately noticeable, and my RPM was back up to 7K. Let me see if I can find my old post.

Pulled off the J pipe, it appears to be corrosion under the clamp (exfoliation) going to wire brush it off and clean it up. It has a build up inside of the clamp that has caused the leak.

UGGGG now it won't crank over. starter just engages with a loud thunk and you can hear it trying to turn the engine over but no joy. Today looks to be like the last chance to ride in our area for the year.
