hey all,

had my ski out this weekend and had some strange things happen, Firstly temperature warning sounds, then followed by oil warning.

So I turned off the ski and tried to restart the engine all you could hear was a "ticking" noise. also when trying to start the instruments seem to reset just as if i was plugging the key in.

any help on this would be appreciated

Regulator....?

Your descriptions to your problem point to your regulator/rectifier. It's part number 278001969 and will cost about $155 USD.

To trouble shoot, get your battery back up to a full charge. Then, start the ski. Use a multi meter electrical tester and see what the DC voltage is. If you do not own one, you need one. This is a basic tool for staying on top of these skis. If you've never done this, when you get it, turn the selector switch to 20 volts DC and put your red lead on the positive post and the black lead on the negative post.

With the ski running, you should see 14 volts or just a bit about, like 14.50. If it exceeds this to 15 vollts, it's bad. If it stays about 12, it's bad.

The reason you saw the gages flicker is because you were losing the charge in your battery. When the ski is running, power is supplied from the magneto thru the regulator and into your systems, including your battery, keeping it charged. Once the regulator goes out, the battery is your sole source powering your electronics. Once it's charge gets weak, the gages are the first to go. When the engine stops, there will be insufficient power to restart the motor.

Check the regulator/rectifier.
