Hey guys, im a current owner of a 96XP and looking to add an RXP to my stable. As a college student with a new house, full time job, child and fiance (yup tossed in a sob story), Im on a pretty small budget. I was a technician at a car dealership for years and am getting very familiar with boats owning the XP. That being said what does everyone think about this..

Good deal or not so much? Any suggestions or ideas on where to source a full dressed engine (215 or 255) and the cost.
I appreciate all the help!
Thanks,
Chris

A good running 4tec with sc is not cheap or easy to find. 1200 for that hull sounds pretty good to me. I would buget another $4k+ to get it running.

I guess thats not terrible. Im going to look at the hull this weekend. hope its in as good of shape and as complete as he says..

I'd go see it with $900 cash in my pocket. If you like what you see offer him the cash money and see if he takes it. $3 to $4K is probably a good estimate to get it up and going with a "new" supercharged engine.

The cost of this one plus all the needed parts and A LOT of your time, it's going to add up to more than a lake-ready one would cost and it'll take a long time before you could even hope to ride it. Better to spend your time making/saving money and looking for a good low-hours lake-ready one IMHO.

By the time you buy this one and spend another ~$3-4K on it, you're only a little ways away from the cost of a good used low-hours lake ready one. So what's the point?

I have nothing against project watercraft, mine was one in fact but mine came with everything I just had to fix the motor... this one you're looking at I would pass on unless I already had a good engine on hand ready to transplant into it.

Regards and good luck!

Michael... always the voice of reason. haha He's got a point Flying. There will be some serious deals by end of summer into mid-winter too as people off-load their used machines.

I like it. Thats probably the best idea. It would probably end up spending more than i will in the fall. Thanks for the comments guys!

I have my moments.... sometimes.

Flying96XP I bought the rxt in my avatar pic off Craigslist for $2100 2 years ago, it had a bent connecting rod on #1 piston and dealership had dismantelled the engine and wanted $4500 to fix the engine and reinstall it... the owner didn't have that kind of money and didn't have a clue how to do it himself so he listed it on my local Craigslist. I got him down to $2100 for it on the trailer, with the simple rational that I had no idea if the bent connecting rod was really the only problem, I could not test ride it obviously, and I was offering to buy a hull on the trailer with a crate full of engine parts... it's not like he was getting any other offers on it, and the dealership wanted a yeah/nay as to whether to fix it or not. I pulled it home with my truck bed loaded with 4TEC engine parts (pistons and crank were still in the block and the block wasn't split open but otherwise everything was in pieces). Took 3 weekends of my time, and a couple hundred dollars in gaskets and stretch bolts and a good used connecting rod off Ebay and after a new battery it fired right up and purred like a kitten (to my immense relief!). Runs great, barely $2600 spent in total + my 3 weekends of time spent on it. This is the kind of thing you have to keep an eye out for and have patience while saving your money and learning all you can about the model PWC you are looking for so you know as many in's and out's about it as possible (ie. ceramic supercharger washers, hollow exhaust valves for instance); know what you're getting into! It took me 4 months of looking on Craigslist and Ebay to finally find this RXT on Craigslist that I thought surely I could fix if I could get the seller down to the right price... so, it can be done! This is the exact Red/Black RXT model I was searching for and dreaming about for those 4 months too I might add, it was perfect! Shiney! :-)

Put the $1200 into mods for your XP. You won't regret it. HAHA
Lol intriguing. The wife would kill me though.

Man that's awesome. That is exactly what i want to find. Inspiration!

Sometimes it not always about the investment and making money. Trust me, learing the process of rebuilding scouring around for parts ... torquing away in the shop. Watching it all come together ... then getting on the lake and having fun ... It truly is amazing. If you like that ski .. buy it .. get yourself an engine for it.

You won't regret it ... even if you don't break even.

I understand that. Story of both my cars and the xp. Its tough only due to the immense up hill climb it looks like id have finding a engine and the components. Definitely. Not out on ot yet, still going to look at it. Just need a bit more research on the parts aspect.

Oh I hear yah ... if you want it on the lake for the next long weekend ... you'll pay. But if you've got time ... you could have it on the lake next spring for around $2500.00

It is a pretty hull... the trailer though is way too short for it in my opinion. Looks like a much older trailer for a 1-seater 2-stroke. With an engine in it there won't be any tongue weight to speak of I bet. I don't like the hull hanging so far out behind the trailer. :-\

Hey I just noticed the RXP is sitting on a double trailer not a single.... and the ad doesn't actually say a trailer is included. Plus it's a too-short trailer looks like it was intended for single-seater 2-stroke model watercraft. Just an fyi. Never hurts to go look at it... note that the seat would have been green originally to match the rest of the trim it's been recovered.

I didn't even notice that. the trailer that my XP is on is from looks about 2 feet longer which would work. that double would be ok till I got it home though if i bought it.

I have a 2005 rxt that you could buy. I could do 1000 on it. it has the broken engine and all working parts. The display is messed up, but if you have the cash that can be fixed. heck... you might could even talk me down a but for the thing. I dont know how far you want to drive to get it though. This also includes the trailer and such. here is my for sale post:

"Hey everyone, im from NC and i have a 2005 rxt for sale. its a 4 stroke and supercharged. I got it broken and was going to fix it, but i realized it takes pockets much deeper than mine at the moment. Then engine is pretty well trashed. it dropped a valve and destroyed the head, and piston and cracked the cylinder wall. It has TONS of good parts on it. The hull is in great shape as far as I know. I also have a single trailer to go with it, but if you buy one, you buy the other. let me know if you want parts from it or want to buy the whole thing. I'm asking $1000 for it."

That's a pretty reasonable price... if the hull is pretty clean and nothing is wrong with the jetpump. You need a pic of it to share.

Way out of my area though and I prefer my 2006 model RXT if I was gonna try to acquire a 2nd one.

Dropped a valve... is that the same as having a valve head pop off? Or does that mean the spring didn't retract the valve fast enough and the piston hit it? 2005 models (and some 2006 models) had hollow sodium filled exhaust valve stems that are prone to corrosion cracking and breaking off.... attached is a pic I found recently online of a 2005 RXP's head after both exhaust valves on 1 cylinder popped off. Yikes! :-O

I'm interested ... PM Sent

I got your PM's. Michael the valve head broke off of the exhaust valve and it destroyed the inside of the engine. cracked cylinder wall and messed up the head. probably did a bit more damage, im not sure. either way, i realize that i cant afford it on my budget. My head looks almost the same as that picture, except that only one valve broke. Thanks!
